FAQs

Common questions we receive from our customers.
What is Phototherapy?
Phototherapy lights emit light in the blue-green spectrum (wavelengths 430-490nm). It is NOT ultraviolet light. It's used to treat newborn jaundice by making it easier for your baby's liver to break down and remove the bilirubin from your baby's blood. Hyperbilirubinemia is very common. As reported by the American Academy of Family Physicians, it affects approximately 60 percent of term newborns and 80 percent of premature babies will develop some level of jaundice the first week of life.
How long will my baby need to be treated?
There are no specific guidelines for when to discontinue phototherapy. Evidence of hemolysis and age of the infant will impact the duration. Daily bilirubin lab tests are recommended and will help your medical provider to know when it is safe to stop the phototherapy treatment.
I've never used a Bili Light before, is there training involved?
Very little training is required and you can be ready to go in under 5 minutes. A member of our team will walk you through the protocol and ensure you're comfortable using the device. If you ever have any questions, we are here to help. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
What is the rental process for a biliblanket?
Once we are contacted by either the medical provider or by a parent, we gather some basic information as well and answer any questions about the phototherapy treatment. We ask that a copy of the prescription for the biliblanket be sent to our secure email at contact@bilibabyrental.com or you can bring a paper copy with you when you take delivery of the biliblanket. We have a 3 day minimum rental and the payment for the first 3 days will be collected upfront before we arrange a delivery time. This charge is non-refundable.
How does the delivery and pickup service work?
We offer free delivery and pickup within the Idaho Falls area. If you need delivery or pickup outside of Idaho Falls, a travel charge will be added to the total amount of the rental. We are happy to deliver the biliblanket to your home or meet you at your pediatricians office. When you're ready to return the biliblanket, please reach out to us to arrange a pickup.
Do you accept my Insurance or Medicaid?
While we currently do not accept insurance or Medicaid, we do provide an itemized receipt with the necessary information needed for you to submit a claim to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement varies from insurer to insurer and the documentation we provide is not a guarantee of reimbursement. Please refer to your insurer with any reimbursement claim questions.
Can I submit a claim directly to my insurer for reimbursement?
Yes, we invite all of our customers with insurance to submit a claim for reimbursement. Customers have shared that they are reimbursed all or at least a portion of the rental fee. In most cases, at a minimum, it goes against their out of pocket/out of network max for the year.
This process can take some effort from you. Bili Baby, LLC will supply you with a superbill that has ICD-10 diagnosis coding (P59.9), CPT “procedure” code (E0202), Modifier (RR- rental), Place of Service Code (H-home), our National Provider ID (NPI-1033868351 ), and our Tax-ID/EIN that will allow you to submit a claim to your health insurance provider. Check out our PATIENT RESOURCES page for our reimbursement guide and Claim forms.
What do I do if my initial reimbursement claim is denied by my insurance?
Sometimes, the first submission is denied by the insurance company. An appeal of the decline typically results in some sort of reimbursement once you bypass the initial front line and speak to a nurse or doctor. Here is an example of a script we recommend our customers use while appealing a denial.
"Our pediatrician indicated that we either had to do in home phototherapy or initiate/extend an NICU stay for our severely jaundiced newborn. Of course the best option for the baby and our family was in home phototherapy.
The only bili blanket for phototherapy that was available near us on the day/time that our pediatrician indicated we needed one, was provided by Bili Baby, LLC.
If we had gone straight to the hospital, the cost to you, Insurance Provider, would have been thousands a day. This cost per day was much less to stay at home using the medically necessary phototherapy device. Additionally, in the hospital, the baby would have been exposed to unnecessary infection risk and parent bonding and breastfeeding relationships would be interrupted significantly. Hospitalization was a far worse choice both for our family and for you, Insurance Provider. Who do I need to talk to and what documentation do you need to ensure this claim is reprocessed and we are reimbursed?"
